In Jyväskylä and other centres in the region there a several playgrounds and play parks, all with safe and up-to-date equipment and some with guided activities. In winter, many of the public playgrounds have their own little ice rinks for skating. Jyväskylä has also 7 skateboard parks, one of them indoors. For a family outing, try the Jyväsjärvi ice track with skating, skiing and walking trails and a log cabin cafe serving drinks and snacks. In the summer, the Viitaniemi Traffic Park offers little ones a chance to learn about traffic rules while having fun in a safe, guided environment. The week-long event has a great deal of family oriented programme, and the last day of the event is always dedicated to children. Activities and performances in the last years have included a circus school, parkour school, music theatre, puppet theatre and clownery. Kihveli Soikoon skiffle music festival in Hankasalmi has special workshops where children build their own instruments and learn to play them together.
