Case: There is highly skilled work force in Central Finland

Pasi Salonen, Espotel Ltd:

“There is highly skilled work force in Central Finland”

Espotel Ltd, a supplier of development services for embedded systems, heard from several quarters that their services would be in good demand in Central Finland. Espotel responded by launching a new unit in Jyväskylä in 2007, with results that have surpassed all expectations. In addition to new business, branching out to Central Finland has brought new skills in the company.

On the whole, Espotel's operations in Jyväskylä have started out with success. Business is growing and results have been profitable. The company has succeeded in recruiting highly skilled staff on which to build the business operations and customerships.

“Central Finland and Jyväskylä are currently among the biggest growth centres in Finland, and represent a key location to Espotel, both in terms of business operations and the highly skilled work force that is available here,” business unit director Pasi Salonen states.

Original estimates regarding, for example, the number of staff members have even doubled. The aim was to have approximately fifteen employees in a few years’ time, but instead the number of employees has increased to thirty in less than two years.

“Currently the projects of our customers in Jyväskylä are employing designers at our offices in Espoo, Tampere and Kuopio as well. In addition, our special experts at Jyväskylä have also carried out projects based outside Central Finland,” Pasi Salonen recounts.

The reported need for Espotel’s services in the Central Finland region has proved to be real. The future looks bright for Espotel, even though the current economic situation brings its own challenges.

“Business operations and profitability have still been on the increase in early 2009, and the utilisation rate in the projects continues to look good,” Salonen sums up.
